One of my favorite things about Singapore is the
variety of food. From Michelin Star restaurants to the local hawker
centers, there is something for every palate. After 4 years of living
here, it has become a bit of a family hobby to find new eateries. So
don’t be surprised that most of my posts will involve food!
Last week my friends introduced me to a fabulous
little French chain Paul Salon De The Restaurant. Located on the 3rd floor
in the Takashimaya Department building, the café has wonderful breads,
sandwiches, salads, savory crepes, and desserts. Did I mention they have
desserts?? Crème Brulee, chocolate cake, crepes and macaroons…just to name a
few.
I so enjoyed this café that I returned with my
daughter, Ashlyn, over the weekend. I ordered the Salad Latine; a fusilli
pasta with Mozzarella, cherry tomatoes, olives, parmesan and rocket (arugula
lettuce) while Ashlyn opted for the Champignons Crepes, a savory crepe
with mushrooms, Emmental, shallots and béchamel. Let me say that neither
of us left food on our plates but I was seriously starring down her crepe while
she ate! The portion sizes were just right so of course we had to try the
desserts.
You can order desserts a la carte but they also
offer two set options. For S$7.90 you can have coffee/tea/cappuccino with
three macaroons or for S$12.90 coffee/tea/cappuccino with two macaroons, a mini
crème brulee and a slice of the Moelleux Chocolat (soft dark chocolate
cake). Ashlyn decided on the larger dessert set and I choose the a la
carte crème brûlée. All the desserts were quite nice, although I think we
both preferred the creme brûlée.
Prices are average for Singapore, the entrees cost
about S$18 per person. While it may not be authentic French, we had a very
pleasant dining experience and will certainly be visiting Paul Salon De The
Restaurant again. But on our next visit…I will be ordering the
Champignon Crepes.
